In the June 2007 issue of Condé Nast Traveler Magazine, Kingsleigh Inn was mentioned as a "Great Value Vacation" in their monthly "Word of Mouth" feature for the "Quietside" of Mount Desert Island and was previously featured in their online version in May 2007 and June 2006 (see reviews). From your own private deck you may choose to do nothing but watch the boats in the harbor while taking in the sun and cool breeze off the water or a much needed nap on our porch hammock. Or you may opt for a hike through a lush pine scented forest in Acadia National Park to reach a summit offering rewarding views of Somes Sound, the only natural fjord on the east coast. With our proximity to the busy town of Bar Harbor, guests can enjoy a day of shopping and popular tourist attractions but come back to end their day on the less commercial and less trampled "Quietside" (its unofficial nickname) of the island. The architecture of this 1904 turn-of-the-century Queen Anne Victorian displays steeply pitched roofs, cedar shingle and Pebbledash exterior with sea stones hand embedded in stucco. Inside is a seamless blend of contemporary and traditional furnishings and fine art. Fabrics of coordinating colors and patterns give this inn a designer touch. Our guests enjoy many of the amenities of an upscale resort on a casual and comfortable, smaller scale, as well as the right mix of privacy and interaction with others that a finely tuned bed and breakfast inn can provide. Breakfast at Kingsleigh Inn is a gourmet event worthy of the camera for the most discriminating palate. Perhaps offering one of Mount Desert Island's most unique menus, before our guests savor a fruit course of Honey and Thyme Roasted Plums with Cardamom and Ginger Spiced Crème Fraiche they usually opt for a starter course of our Gourmet Granola. Here at Kingsleigh Inn you will likely see a savory entree garnished with Chilled Asparagus Spears with a Curry Lime Aioli or Marsala Glazed Baby Carrots. In the afternoon, guests might enjoy Almond Lace Florentines filled with Cinnamon Buttercream (photo below), The Ultimate Chocolate Caramel Fudge Brownies or Chocolate Dipped Orange Almond Biscotti to accompany their freshly brewed espresso or tea.
